How Governor Oyebanji’s Compassion Rescued Mama Morenike Alufoge – By Femi Esan
Who remembers Mama Morenike Ajayi Alufoge, an aged widow and roadside trader in Igbara-Odo, for whom Governor Biodun Oyebanji built a new and fully furnished three-bedroom apartment in February 2025, after her house was ravaged by flood and she was rendered homeless before the Governor’s intervention?
The Governor built her a new home from scratch as a personal gift, donated in the name of the Abiyamo Esther Oyebanji Foundation.
The building was, at the time, commissioned by Her Excellency, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji. And it didn’t end with the house. Mama was also provided with monthly upkeep support and her child was given employment.
Fast-forward to yesterday.
Mama attended the Citizens’ Engagement Programme for South Senatorial District in Igbara-Odo, and there she was, having a conversation with the Governor who, barely some time ago, intervened in one of the most difficult moments of her life.
Looking at the picture, one couldn’t help but remember what Mama said during the commissioning of her house last year.
She said, “BAO ti fun mi laye tuntun, ka je emi mi gun si” (“BAO has given me a new life that would cause longevity for me”). Mama never imagined that she would own or live in such a beautiful home in her lifetime.
Think about that for a moment.
For some people, a house is simply another completed project. But for Mama, it was home, security, and dignity. It was the comfort of knowing that, at her age, she would not have to wonder where the next rain would meet her.
And that is why some interventions go beyond the value of the money spent or the structure delivered.
Mr. Governor gave Mama a home at a time when she had lost everything; therefore, the memory lives with her.

Mama’s story is just one example of many vulnerable people whom Mr. Governor has come through for.
Governor Oyebanji’s administration is hinged on compassion.
A Governor who puts the people first.
He doesn’t play politics with his people’s lives.
His style is humanitarian governance, hence the undiluted love from Ekiti people to him.
As a leader in authority, be compassionate, and ensure you genuinely touch lives.
No matter how much time passes, the person whose life was touched will always remember.
