Ekiti Targets 1,500km Rural Roads in Oyebanji’s Second Term

The Planning Committee for Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s Second Term Inauguration has assured residents that the incoming administration will focus on strategic economic interventions to boost the local economy and enhance citizen welfare.
Speaking on Friday at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti to unveil activities for the October 16 inauguration, the Committee Chairman and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Oyeniyi Adebayo, outlined the administration’s vision for the next four years.

He noted that the administration recorded landmark achievements during its first term and is set to consolidate existing programs while introducing new growth drivers.
“The theme, ‘The Good Work Continues’, reflects the administration’s intention to consolidate existing programmes while introducing further interventions aimed at strengthening the state’s economy and improving the welfare of citizens,” Adebayo stated.
Key Priorities for the Second Term
Adebayo expressed confidence that the second term will usher in accelerated development across critical sectors of the state economy.
He highlighted that recent consultative tours across Ekiti’s three senatorial districts helped identify key priorities, including healthcare, power, road networks, water supply, agriculture, human capital development, and economic empowerment.
A major highlight of the second term will be the construction and delivery of up to 1,500 kilometres of rural roads in partnership with development agencies.

First-Term Milestones and Achievements
Highlighting the administration’s record over the past four years, the committee chairman outlined key accomplishments across infrastructure, education, health, and economic empowerment:
Infrastructure & Power
- Cargo Airport: Completion of the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport, which commenced commercial operations in late 2025 to boost trade, tourism, and agricultural exports.
- Road Network: Completed over 500 kilometres of inter-city and rural roads, with several other projects ongoing.
- Power Restoration: Extended public power supply to communities in Aiyekire, Ekiti East Local Government Area, and the Ikogosi tourism corridor after years of blackout.

Health & Education
- Healthcare: Renovated and equipped over 110 primary healthcare centres and all state general hospitals with modern facilities.
- School Upgrades: Executed comprehensive renovations across 203 secondary schools (including three special schools) and 950 primary schools statewide.
- Digital Infrastructure: Established nine ICT laboratories in selected secondary schools and technical colleges, alongside new primary schools built under the SUBEB Model School Project.
- Student Support: Expended ₦2.158 billion on WAEC examination fees for 69,000 students over four years, alongside distributing free JAMB forms to 12,400 candidates.

Agriculture & MSME Empowerment
- Youth in Agriculture: Engaged over 5,000 youths in commercial farming through the ‘Bring Back the Youth into Agriculture’ initiative, generating over ₦1 billion in profits within 18 months.
- Financial Grants & Support: Disbursed ₦1.1 billion in credit and operational grants to 2,777 beneficiaries, ₦400 million in loans to 443 MSMEs, and ₦450 million in grants to 10 agricultural cooperatives.
- Business Registration: Facilitated free Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration for 5,400 small businesses.
