OKEMESI-EKITI — As Ekiti State marks its 30th anniversary, the state stands at a critical intersection of history. Three decades ago, visionary leaders fought for an identity rooted in education, resilience, and community progress. As the state looks ahead to 2056, the question is no longer what has been built, but who will sustain and reform it.

The next three decades belong to the youth. Inheriting the future, however, demands more than energy; it requires structural preparation, civic literacy, and a deliberate shift from the sidelines into governance.

For too long, youth engagement has been reactive. Social media outrage and seasonal mobilization generate attention but rarely produce institutional reform. Emerging leaders must therefore move beyond criticism to develop alternative policy frameworks and legislative proposals that embed youth voices in lawmaking and bridge the gap between advocacy and execution.

Effective governance is built on systems, not rhetoric. To navigate the next 30 years, young citizens must understand public administration at the grassroots. This means tracking local government budgets and constituency projects to ensure fiscal transparency, as well as engaging beyond general elections through town halls, ward meetings, and policy dialogues.

The challenges ahead cannot be solved with 20th-century tools. Digital transformation, food security, and innovation require an agile, technology-driven mindset. Initiatives such as the Think Advancement Community Development and Empowerment Initiative are already bridging the digital divide through IT and business development training for youths in Lagos and Ekiti, promoting inclusion and self-reliance.

Ultimately, the next 30 years will reflect the preparation made today. The rising generation must become co-architects of society rather than observers. Politics determines taxation, education, and economic survival; it is far too important to be left solely to politicians. The time to learn the rules, engage the system, and build the future is now.
